
PACIFICA QUARTET LAUNCHES
CHICAGO-AREA BEETHOVEN FESTIVAL
Beginning October 14, 2007 and continuing through March 2, 2008, six Chicago-area presenters will come together in a unique collaboration to present the Pacifica Quartet Beethoven Festival. Along with a wide range of lectures, master classes and special events, the award-winning Pacifica Quartet will perform Beethoven’s monumental cycle of 16 string quartets. The festival marks the first Beethoven cycle to be offered in multiple venues around the city, promising to be a highlight of Chicago’s 2007-08 concert season.

This autumn sees the release of two new Strauss operas conducted by Semyon
Bychkov: Daphne and Elektra. Bychkov, whose reputation as an interpreter
of Strauss has become increasingly acknowledged, is recognized additionally
for the quality of his relationship with the WDR Sinfonie Orchester Köln,
with whom both operas have been recorded.

ArtistLed is proud to announce the release of its eighth recording featuring the two cello sonatas of
Johannes Brahms (Opp. 38 & 99), performed by cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han. The CD also
includes Brahms’s Six Pieces for Solo Piano, Op. 118, a set of miniature masterpieces composed near the
end of his life. The performance of the Six Pieces marks Wu Han’s second solo appearance on the
ArtistLed label.

Expanding its innovative approaches to learning, Stanford University has created
ENCOUNTER:MERCE, its largest-ever multidisciplinary arts project. Some 16 schools,
departments, and centers across campus - including the School of Medicine, the
Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA), the Stanford
Humanities Center, the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts, and Stanford
Lively Arts - will use the life and art of legendary choreographer and thinker Merce
Cunningham as a unifying force for collaborative study, exploration, and creative
expression.

THE CHAMBER MUSIC SOCIETY OF LINCOLN CENTER NAMES
DAVID FINCKEL AND WU HAN ARTISTIC DIRECTORS
The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center announced today the appointment of
David Finckel and Wu Han as Artistic Directors, concluding an extensive international
search. “The appointment of these wonderful artists is a major event for the Chamber
Music Society,” said Peter Frelinghuysen, Chairman of the Board, “and we are confident
that their energy, experience, and exceptional musicianship will bring the Society to a
new level of excellence.” David Finckel and Wu Han will present their first programmed
season in 2006-2007, although their appointment is effective immediately.

Licensing Agreement Made with
Decca/Universal Music Group
Michael Torke's music can now be widely heard on disc again, thanks to the release of a comprehensive collection of recordings on his own label, Ecstatic Records, which will become available on September 30, 2003.
Ecstatic Records was formed after a successful licensing agreement was made with Decca/Universal Music Group to re-release the complete Argo recordings of Torke's music (1989-1998), produced by Grammy Award winner Andrew Cornall.
